ENERGY, FOCUS, TIMING & FEEL

What is it about Natural Horsemanship that is unique?

It is the ability to move your horse or cause your horse to move with you, just with energy & focus alone.

As Pat Parelli says “When you take the halter off, all you have left is the truth”.

What would happen if you took the halter off your horse? Would your horse stay with you & move to wherever you were focusing? Could you play the 7games without a halter or stick? Would you feel secure riding your horse with no bridle, halter or stick?

When you work with your horse with the halter on & you play the 7games & your horse does it all on a loose lead or with a belly in the rope, take the halter off, throw the stick away & try again.

See what it takes just to have your horse stay with you or move just how you want it to. How hard is it now? How much softer do you need to be to have your horse actually not run away? Or conversely how much energy & focus do you need to add to cause your horse to move with you & go where you want it to?

Does your horse just stand there when you move off to walk straight ahead when you don’t have the halter on or a stick in your hand? What do you need to do to cause your horse to move forward with all of it’s zone 1 in front of your shoulder? Can you cause that to happen? So if your horse will stay with you with all it’s zone 1 infront of your shoulder, will it now change direction with you, without lagging behind or swapping sides to shortcut your bend? Will your horse stop with you as you stop & even stay with you as you back up a few steps?

If you are getting more 'No' answers than 'Yes' answers, then you are relying on your tools & not your energy, focus, timing & feel to get things done.

I have some nicknames for a halter....'escape prevention device' or 'horse entrapment device'!
I have some nicknames for a carrot stick....'horse chasing device' or 'ego exceleration device'! lol

Both tools have a place & if used thoughtfully, will enhance your relationship with your horse. But incorrectly used, they can both cause discomfort, heartache & peraps even a false sense of security. Another thing I see regularly is the only true difference between people following normal or natural training methods is the type of halter being used & one lot is energeticly waving a stick about!

I've just added 2 more videos to my youtube channel. One is about Cassie learning to work at liberty with Jude & Sonny. The other is what happens at my place at feedtime. I have slightly different way to handle the dominent horse issue to help keep the peace & avoid wastage.
